Fifty Years as a Faith Operationjakehelen

Through faith and perseverance, Jake and Helen Townley established a “one on one” solution for wear problems in slurry applications. Established on Christian principles, their foundation has helped grow Townley to become a trusted source for solving abrasion and corrosion. What began with an innovative urethane known as Towniprene®, Townley has created a product offering with over 1,000 standard items. These items include slurry pumps, submersible pumps, cast foundry products, valves, hand-built rubber hose, rubber lining, Towniprene® wear parts, and Towniprene® flotation parts. Therefore, today, we provide products to the minerals, mining, power, and energy industry around the globe from our seven manufacturing locations here in the United States.

Creation of Towniprene®

Jake Townley developed a polyurethane as a component applied to wear surfaces that, has changed the phosphate mining industry forever. Due to working with DuPont, he developed a patented urethane formulation called Towniprene® which far outlasted the OEM wear materials. When separating unwanted material from the desired, abrasive and corrosive materials will rapidly degrade the rubber lining and metal alloys. Thanks to Jake’s work with Towniprene®, it is still used throughout the world as an excellent fine slurry wear solution.

Rubber Solutions

Townley is one of the largest manufacturers of hand-built hoses in North America. We supply slurry hoses for mining, power, dredging, and other solid hydro transport applications. Towniflex® hose is considered the most durably in the industry and due to this many are still in operation after 20 years of service. Many customers have found that Towniflex®’s rubber hose has reduced abrasion wear, reduces vibration, and has better flex than competitor hoses. Therefore, our customers are able to reduce costs and have their operations run for longer without issue.

“We made our first pour on August 14, 1982.”

Customers rely on Townley to manufacture reliable products. Townley achieves this by world-class white-iron slurry pumps, pump parts, and coal-fired FGD wear parts with consistent metallurgy. With world-class foundry and CNC machining, Townley prides itself on providing outstanding products that outlast the competition. Townley’s experienced staff provides failure analysis to the customers about their existing wear parts and makes recommendations to improve their operation.

Jake Envisioned the Valve Product Lineseries 150 knife gate valve

Townley has created a unique line of slurry valves because Townley saw a need for longer-lasting valves. Furthermore, our valves are made for applications found in matrix, in-plant beneficiation, tailings for mining, limestone slurry, bottom ash-handling, water isolation, and in Coal-fired power plants.

Knife Gate Valves for flow diversion and shutoff service, available from 2” to 54” ID

Butterfly Valves for Flow control and isolation, available from 3” to 96” ID

Pinch valves for flow modulation, especially good for mining circuits, Available up to 24” ID

Urs Blattmann Designpatented-pumps

This new pump design was named the “UBD Pump Series” because “UBD” stands for Urs Blattmann Design, who designed it. The UBD pump, with its recessed impeller, received a United States Patent for its design features in July of 2005. This pump was very successful in decreasing wear in very abrasive pumping circuits up to 50 percent without losing efficiency. “The patented UBD pump designed by Urs with its unique recessed impeller, creates the most significant advancement in solids handling pumps for the industry in over 20 years,” says Toro Townley.

MSP Modular Submersible Slurry Pump

Submersible slurry pumps repair

Townley offers modular Submersible Pumps which are designed to handle the toughest service in mining, power, and dredging. The Townley MSP-Polaris Pump line includes a broad range of sizes from 2 inches to 10 inches. They come with discharge ports, various wet-end configurations, and 5 to 200 horsepower motor combinations to satisfy customer’s requirements.

The MSP pump line uses a modular platform approach with common wet-end components for all the various sizes. Designed to run dry protection in high-chrome wet-end parts, these pumps will work in the toughest slurry and solids dewatering sumps. Additionally, Townley has the most pumps in stock and a certified pump rebuild service in North America to keep plants running.

Fifty Years as a Faith Operation

The Townley Company’s commitment to excellence in product design, manufacturing, and customer service is unmistakable. “We supply products that are in some of the most demanding industrial applications around the world. Over the past 50 years, we have found that we can meet the demands of those applications successfully. We have been able to stand behind the product with a very high degree of customer satisfaction and success. We like to think that when the going really gets tough, we are the kind of company that can stand in there and goes the distance with the customer; inevitably, the customer who will work with us over the long haul, and many mining and major power companies have, we have been successful at reducing their cost of operation dramatically.” Toro Townley. Townley and its employees stand ready to serve their customers’ needs. We achieve this by helping customers find solutions to their abrasion and corrosion problems.

Single Pouring Capacity Up to 40,000 PoundsFoundry Expansion

Townley casts hundreds of different alloy wear parts, which are used in slurry applications. Our products are well-known for their process improvements, refined metallurgy, robust designs, reduced part count, and willingness and ability to move lifting lugs for safety and convenience to the user. High-performance alloy creation requires absolute control of the melting process and metal formulation. Using “state-of-the-art” spectrometers, Townley can assure the elemental composition. Townley now has a single pouring capacity of up to 40,000 pounds. We pour a variety of different alloys, which include HC28, CM22, CD4, Duplex SS, GR4, HC27, HC34, and NIHARD4.
