J.O. “Jake” Townley, our founder, was a proud West Virginia coal miner for 20 years. He was keenly aware of the wear problems facing miners and the real hands-on value of “lowering the cost per ton” by improving materials.
In 1963, with an interest in polyurethanes, he co-developed new formulations with DuPont, engineered specifically to address the corrosion and abrasion problems experienced in the mining industry. Creating the first manufacturing facility in Florida was especially helpful to the growing phosphate industry and established a solid base for Mr. Townley’s faith based industry.
Over the next few decades, he expanded the product line to include flexible rubber hose, valves and high quality white iron castings.
His pioneering spirit continued as he opened plants closer to customers in West Virginia, Arizona, Illinois and Texas, enabling quicker response time and helping the local economy.
As a privately held company, Townley continues to operate in a creative fashion under the guidance of his son Toro Townley. Toro couples a flexible small business style with the technical resources and capability of a much larger contemporary company.
Because of Mr. Townley’s foresight and diligence, we now offer a comprehensive array of products directed to the mineral beneficiation, dredging and coal-fired power industry.
The Townley name stands out as one of the finest suppliers in North America!
